Basic usage:

{{if|test=cond|then=then part|else=else part}}

{{if|test=cond|then=then part}}

Parameters should be written as:

{{{a|}}} instead of {{{a}}}

This is a VERY, VERY, patchy template for an IF statement. Please read the Wikipedia documentation carefully as well

The untold history: There was no IF statement in templates until somebody at Swedish wiki invented this template and it became very popular and was exported to Wikipedia. Of course it wasn't invented there, so instead of making a nice server implementation, it was fought by the developers with non-arguments like server strain which they could not proof. This patch works except that you should not use it too much, because it is incredibly difficult to read (so please no nested ifs!)
