Pyrrho:If democracy dominoes

From dKosopedia

Domino Effect: Iraqi Democracy

Jordon, Egypt... is democracy sweeping the Arab world! No. It is not. Would that it were.

And what would be our political fate if it did? Would the republicans keep control of government? Imagine all the Arab nations institution democracy, imagine they buy a full page ad in the New York Time and in the Rev. Moon Times saying, "We did it because of that domino effect of democracy spreading out from the illegal war in Iraq!"

Would the American public say that the Republicans were vindicated! Possibly. But would the continue to vote for Republicans? No. Not at all. That would be a certain end of this Republican political empire which threatens us now.

To realize why you must understand or remember that Americans do not vote for success (you just can't get this can you!? -ed) They vote their identity. Success is key for your colleagues, for progressives, because success is the key to progress. But for the voter, identity is more important.

If democracy were to break out in the Middle East, the Americans would have no more use for Republicans... they would turn to the reconcillators, to those of compassion, to diplomats to fix the damage done. They think certain people, certain leaders, certain attitudes are suited to certain purposes, and when they decided they wanted to kick the world around a bit and show they wouldn't take shit, they chose what they thought would represent them. They chose torture justifiers, they chose hegemonic theorists and they did so with full intent.

If democracy does break out... I wish that with all my heart both for the world and for our political fortunes as well. It won't happen, so I wish but don't bother to hope, still, it occurs to me that should it happen, or even seem to happen, their reign of fear would peter out and the American voter would have no more use of them.

A much bigger worry is that the tensions be maintained. If democracy takes hold in the Middle East, if Iran completes it's reform, if Jordan becomes democratic and real democratic process sprouts in Egypt, and Palestine, and Afghanistan and Syria... they are done for. If that happened it would be the failure of their political strategy, similar to their bluff being called.

Hows that for confusing, but true?
