Hugh Gillis

From dKosopedia

s20.gif

Hugh, the longest serving legislator in the history of the nation upon his 2004 retirement, served under the Gold Dome for 56 years, from the heyday of Georgia Democrats to the low point of the State Senate flipping to GOP control in 2002. Democrat-friendly maps drawn in 2001 were thrown out, and when the new court-drawn maps put him in the same district as Republican Jack Hill, Hugh chose to retire. In honor of his remarkable tenure, Gov. Sonny Perdue named him to the board of Georgia Ports Authority.

Hugh is a graduate of the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Gridiron Secret Society.
