Talk:House Subcommittee on Research

From dKosopedia

One thing to do is to look at who did not get reelected; I'll start working on this.

Done a bit of work on this

Incoming Dems to head Science Subcommittee and Appropriations Committee:

Committee: Science New chairman: Bart Gordon, Tennessee

The focus of the work of this committee is the research and recommendation of non-defense uses of science, specifically as it relates to information gleaned through space exploration. There is overlap with other committees and as a result the Science Committee has been subjected to alot of interference by other agencies, mostly The National Science Board, discussed below. Bart Gordon is replacing Sherwood Boehlert of New York. Gordon believes this inter-committee interference has not progressed NASA (and the scienntific community at large) is areas he deems important; for example determining future sources of energy.

The Science Committee is sub of the master of all committees - The Appropriations Committee:

Committee: Appropriations New chairman: David Obey, Wisconsin

The Appropriations Commmittee is widely considered to be the most powerful in the House because it writes the checks for all of the subs that report into it - or most of the committees of the House. Obey has not been forthcoming with his plans - but it is very early days for him. He has been vocal in the past about the importance of the environment.

Also, because I want to be involved in the area of Science as it relates to space, NASA, Project Einstein, LISA. and non-aggressive uses of NASA, I have learned the following:

Many programs were cut under Bush that enraged the Science community - most of them fall under THE EINSTEIN PROJECT. The approval or the cutting of funding is done through a federally funded organization called The National Science Board. They can take between 1 and 2 years to make decisions. Not good at a time when other countries are moving quickly in funding and using research to understand and use alternate sources of power, understand and harness the energy of the Sun, prepare for a predicted wobble in the year 2012 which could be experienced as a minor earthquake or one so major that entire continents could be swallowed up by the oceans. Truth is no one knows. What is known and considered to be absolutely certain is that one will occur in 2012.That can be read on the NASA website.

I have much information and will share all if wanted. I can't figure out, however, how to get on this committee using the editing capabilities here so all help welcomed.

I just noticed that the Dem Caucus has a Sicence Listserv too, and I just signed myself up. :) -- Pb 21:59, 15 November 2006 (PST)
