Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Task Force

The Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Task Force, enabled by law during the 2005 legislative session, will review the Hawaii State Plan and other basic aspects of community planning.
The task force will create the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan to ensure its relevance as a guide for the future long-term development of the State, and report to the legislature and the governor on creating the plan before the 2006 legislative session. The Hawaii State Office of the Auditor is to submit the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan to the Hawaii State Legislature, 2008.
Its twenty-five members are selected as follows:
- Four members from each house of the legislature appointed by the presiding officer of each house;
- A representative of the governor appointed by the governor;
- The director of the state office of planning or the director's designee;
- The auditor or the auditor's designee;
- Two members from the University of Hawaii's school of urban and regional planning to be appointed by the president of the University of Hawaii; and
- Three members from each county, with at least one member from each county being the departmental director of the appropriate county planning department or agency or the director's designee.
- The mayor of each county shall appoint the representatives for their respective county.
The Hawaii State Office of Planning will assist the task force in performing its duties as required under this Act.
Draft plan unveiling
A Hawai‘i 2050 Sustainability Summit will be held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom on Saturday, Sep. 22, 2007 from 8:00 AM - 12:30pm, where the final draft of the Hawai'i 2050 Sustainability Plan will be unveiled.
