Talk:Harold Washington

-wegerje 08:42, 1 Jun 2004 (PDT) I have already compromised with the quotation marks around beloved. What's your problem with the word? If it's NPOV, then I counter that our POV here is LPPOV (Liberal/Progressive Point of View). We have a lot of latitude here. We don't have to be bland.
--Maxomai The problem is that "beloved" looks sarcastic. Seriously, I think it's best just to leave the word out completely, and let his legacy speak for itself.
--wegerje 09:16, 1 Jun 2004 (PDT) Sarcasm hadn't occurred to me. I can see that point. I will take the quotes off. Thanks.
- PS: It is through venues like this that his legacy speaks. Maybe we should change the one word - beloved - with a sentence or two that would capture that important essence of his time as mayor? Like I said, we have latitude here. Let's use it.
--Maxomai How about: "Although controversial for his time, Washington left a legacy that made Chicago a more inclusive city and brought a sense of belonging to its minority communities. For this reason, he is greaty revered by many."
--wegerje Nice line. The thing is that it sounds like he was the cause of the controversy unless it's stated explicitly that the Vrdolyack (sp?) crew was the cause. he also opened up the budgetary process which opening the current Daley continues.
