Greg Goggans

Greg Goggans is a Republican state senator from Douglas, Georgia.

Goggans was first elected to the State Senate in 2004. He won an open seat created by the retirement of a Democrat.

Goggans is best known for his sponsorship of "Shoot First" legislation advanced by the National Rifle Association. The Goggans bill authorizes the immediate use of deadly force for protection of life, limb and property and eliminates the common law duty to retreat in the face of such a threat.

Goggans was named Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee at the end of his freshman term.

Goggans is an orthodontist by profession.
