Gary Hansen a Democrat, is the Oregon State Representative for Oregon State House District 44 in the 2005 legislature. He was unopposed in the 2004 elections.

Background

Gary Hansen was an original member of the North Portland Citizens Committee. He was elected to METRO in 1982 and served for eight years. He served as chair of the Regional Services, Budget and Solid Waste Committees and as Deputy Presiding Officer of METRO from 1989-1990.

In 1990, Hansen was elected to the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners in District 2. During his service there, he initiated discussions with METRO that led to the consolidation and reorganization of regional services. He also worked for courthouse security through state-assessed fees, domestic partner benefits for county employees, the repeal of the regressive utility tax, and funding to establish the Youth Empowerment and Employment Project. In 1998, he was elected President of the Association of Oregon Counties and served in that position until 1999 when he began his first term in the State Legislature.

Hansen has owned and operated his own plumbing business for five years and has been a member of the Plumbing and Pipefitters Local 290 for over 30 years.

Gary Hansen is the State Representative for Oregon House District 44, which encompasses North Portland. He is currently serving his fourth term in the Oregon State Legislature. During the legislative session, Representative Hansen served on three joint committees: Ways and Means, Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Services, and Ways and Means Subcommittee on Public Safety. During the interim, Hansen will be serving on the Emergency Board which meets in Salem every three months.

He lives with his wife Marilyn in North Portland and enjoys astronomy, golf, and spending time with his grandchildren.
