Edmund Burke
From dKosopedia
Known for two centuries as the Father of Conservatism, but now just another lousy Tax and Spend Liberal.
- Mere parsimony is not economy. Expense, and great expense, may be an essential part in true economy.
- Economy is a distributive virtue, and consists not in saving but selection. Parsimony requires no providence, no sagacity, no powers of combination, no comparison, no judgment.
Thoughts on the Cause of Present Discontents (1770): "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle."
