In 2002, Donzella James was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Georgia's 13th U.S. House District. David Scott defeated her in the primary, and went on to win the general election. In 2004, she was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for State Senate District 35, the seat she resigned to run for Congress in 2002; she lost this race to Senator Kasim Reed.
