Don Balfour

Don Balfour is a long serving Republican state senator from Snellville, Georgia and chairman of the powerful Senate Rules Committee.

Balfour was first elected to the State Senate in 1992. He served as Chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus in the mid-1990s before losing that job to Senator Casey Cagle. He was again elected Caucus Chairman after the 2002 elections.

As Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, Balfour is the "gatekeeper" of the Senate, helping to decide which bills go to the floor for debate and a vote.

Balfour is best known for legislation introduced in 2005 legalizing sparklers in the state of Georgia.

Balfour is an executive with Waffle House. He is a graduate of Bob Jones University.
