Diane Linn began her current four-year term as Chair of the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners in January 2003. She joined the county government in 1998 when she was elected Multnomah County Commissioner representing District 1. She was then elected to serve out the term of resigning Chair Bev Stein in 2001. Diane served as the director of the City of Portland’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement for several years before running for political office. Previously she was executive director of Oregon NARAL and Vice President of Programming and Public Affairs for Paragon Cable TV.
Diane has a BA in Political Science and a certificate in Urban Studies from Portland State University. She attended the Leadership Training Program at the University of Oregon, and completed Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government. A Portland native, Diane was raised in SE Portland’s Buckman neighborhood.
Accomplishments
Under Diane’s leadership, Multnomah County reorganized its mental health system, passed the replacement levy for the Multnomah County Library System, approved expansion of the Urban Growth Boundary to provide more land for business development, and concluded the agreement that allowed Microchip Technology to reopen the former Fujitsu facility in Gresham. She provides leadership to the County’s homeless youth program to help achieve the goal of getting youth off the streets, and she has made jurisdictional emergency preparedness a top priority, to ensure the community’s safety. She also established the Office of School and Community Partnerships to focus on alignment of school-based services, strengthening existing partnerships, expanding proven programs and practices, and ensuring cultural competency.
