Derek Casady is a Democratic veteran who ran for Congress in California's 52nd district, see California U.S. House election, 2006. He is one of the Fighting Dems. He lost the primary.

Derek has had a diverse career. He worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, founded a free medical clinic, and he owned and managed Casady's Whole Foods Market. He also worked for 10 years as the Administative Assistant to Senator Jim Mills, the President Pro Tempore of the California Senate.

He and his wife and Nancy have five children and four grandchildren.
