Overview
David Ige, a member of the Democratic Party, was first appointed to the House of Representatives in 1985 by Governor Ariyoshi to fill the seat vacated by Arnold Morgado. In November 1994, he was elected to serve his first term in the State Senate. Ige presently represents the 16th Senatorial District in the Hawaii State Senate of the Hawaii State Legislature. The 16th District includes the areas of Aiea, Aiea Heights, Momilani, Newtown, Pacific Palisades, Pearl City, Upper Pearlridge, Waiau and Waimalu on the island of Oahu, in the state of Hawaii.
David Ige was born and raised in Pearl City. He attended Pearl City Elementary, Highlands Intermediate, and Pearl City High School. David holds a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering for the University of Hawaii. He is also a member of the Pearl City Community Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and Newtown Estates Community Association. David is married and has two daughters and a son.
David is a strong advocate for the State's information and telecommunications policy which he believes to be at the Center of Hawaii's efforts to diversify its economy. Some of the fruits of this efforts include establishing a seed capital and venture capital program, software development initiatives, and technology transfer programs for the State of Hawaii.
In 2007-8, David chairs the Senate Committee on Health.
Ige has only a fair environmental voting record (see below).
