David A. Paterson

David A. Paterson will be the Governor of New York as of March 17, 2008. He was elected as Lt. Gov. in 2006, and became Governor after Eliot Spitzer resigned. Paterson was elected to the 30th District of the State Senate in 1985, and he became Minority Leader in 2002.

Paterson is African-American, and he is legally blind. He is the nation's first blind Governor.

Paterson was born in 1954, and he graduated from Columbia University in 1977, and later from Hofstra Law School. He is the son of Basil Paterson. He and his wife Michelle have two children.
