Discussion formatting hints:

Start a new thread with a section header. Put the subject on a line by itself with two = signs on either side. (Use three or more ='s to make sub-sections.) Sections show up in the Table of Contents, and can be edited separately.

Use indentation to show thread structure. Indent your replies by starting them with ":", one for each indent level. Indent your comment one more level than the one to which you're replying. Put your reply after other replies to the same comment.

Sign your comments. After your comment, type two "-"s and four tildes: (-- ~~~~). This will be converted to a signature with your user name and a timestamp.

Missing a Committee?

Am I blind or is the House International Relations Committee missing entirely from the project? Lestatdelc 17:38, 14 January 2007 (PST)

Who'll be head of House Admin?

Anyone know who the new chair of the Committee on House Administration is going to be? The ranking minority member is Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-CA). I couldn't find an answer through Google. Perhaps no decision has been made? -AlanF 14:42, 2 December 2006 (PST)

Juanita Millender-McDonald, http://www.inthesetimes.com/site/main/article/2927/ PermanentE 13:16, 3 December 2006 (PST)
Okay, thanks. The article does merely say that Millender-McDonald is "poised" for a chairmanship, but that's more than I've read elsewhere. In 2000, no one from the Senate would allow a member of the Congressional Black Caucus to speak about vote suppression. How sweet it would be if someone from the CBC were actually to chair the House Admin committee! Millender-McDonald has also been ignored recently by the Republicans, such as when they prevented consideration of her amendment to weaken H.R. 4844 (Voter ID bill). She'll be harder to ignore now! -- AlanF 20:45, 3 December 2006 (PST)

"rollback?"

What does the "rollback" link mean that is located next to contributions I can see when I look at my own contributions? I don't want to hit the link, since I don't know if that will result in an unwanted reversion.--Greenreflex 23:39, 9 December 2006 (PST)

"Rollback" reverts the edit, like you guessed. They're not primarily for your own contributions -- they show up when you're looking at any user's contributions list. The idea is that if someone's an obvious troll, you can go to their contributions list and quickly revert all their edits from one page. —Abou Ben Adhem 00:09, 10 December 2006 (PST)

hits

does anyone know how the figure at the bottom of the page is calculated? What counts as a page "access"? I'm just wondering how many hits we're getting. We're now #1 on google for "committees project" too, btw.--Greenreflex 10:14, 16 December 2006 (PST)

also, we're now #19 for "congressional committee", up from somewhere in the forties last week.--Greenreflex 10:17, 16 December 2006 (PST)
Looking at MediaWiki's source code, it looks like the viewcount should get incremented every time the template renders the page. However, if you visit the page multiple times between page edits, it's likely that your browser will see that the page is unchanged and just reload its local cached copy. Testing right now, I can force the counter to update with each view if I clear my browser cache each time. What this means in effect is that the viewcount should be at least as high as the number of times users have viewed a newly-edited version of the page. —Abou Ben Adhem 22:41, 18 December 2006 (PST)

wikipedia

Would it be appropriate to add a link to our main page from the Wikipedia page on congressional committees? Is anyone an active article editor there?--Greenreflex 10:21, 16 December 2006 (PST)

Name change heads-up

according to this comment from NatureGal, there are going to be some name changes with new sub-committees for us to watch out for.--Greenreflex 10:22, 17 December 2006 (PST)

Help with Index of quicklinks!

I made a table of quicklinks by editing the template file that (I think Abou) has made for most dkosopedia pages, in order to get the main set of important links to the top of the CCP page, without losing the functionality of the main TOC.

here's what I made

Main Congressional Committees Project Links
About
Help Getting Started
Guidelines
Toolbox
Transparency Advocacy
News Links

I don't know how to insert it properly, without ruining the top of the page. I was going to put it over the other two search boxes. When I try to do that, the first tag search box gets pushed to the middle of the page.

I just put it in below the others, if anyone would like to put it over the others, or make it into a template rather than a big html mess, feel free.--Greenreflex 14:34, 1 January 2007 (PST)
I like the quicklinks idea! As a possible alternative to putting them in with the diary search templates (which I can't take credit for -- I think RobLa originally wrote them) -- what about incorporating the quicklinks into the table of contents? Something like this:

House Committee on Homeland Security

I haven't checked any other committees, but Homeland Security has combined a couple of subcommittees. On the main page, they are listed as:

  • Economic Security, Infrastructure Protection, andn Cybersecurity
  • Emergency Preparedness, Science, and Technology
  • Intelligence, Information Sharing, and Terrorism Risk Assessment
  • Investigations
  • Managment, Intergration, and Oversight
  • Prevention of Nuclear and Biological Attacks

If you go to the homepage of the Homeland Security Committee, this is what they have listed:

  • Subcommittee on Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism
  • Subcommittee on Emergency Communications, Preparedness, and Response
  • Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, and Science and Technology
  • Subcommittee on Intelligence, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment
  • Subcommittee on Management, Investigations, and Oversight
  • Subcommittee on Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection

Just a FYI so the front page can be adjusted.

Also, does anyone know when they are announcing who will be sitting on the subcommittees? I've been checking almost every day and nothing.--Kml 11:12, 17 January 2007 (PST)

Hmmm... Should we rename the committee pages like this?
Old New
Economic Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Cybersecurity > Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection
Emergency Preparedness, Science, and Technology > Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, and Science and Technology
Intelligence, Information Sharing, and Terrorism Risk Assessment > Intelligence, Information Sharing, and Terrorism Risk Assessment
Investigations > Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism
Management, Integration, and Oversight > Management, Investigations, and Oversight
Prevention of Nuclear and Biological Attacks > Emergency Communications, Preparedness, and Response
Admittedly not a perfect fit... Does anyone assigned to these subcommittees have an opinion? —Abou Ben Adhem 00:08, 16 January 2007 (PST)
Honestly, whatever is easier to do, as long as it closely reflects the changes made on the website. I'm covering the subcommittee on investigations and I have no problem switching it to the newer version (management, investigations and oversight).Kml 11:12, 17 January 2007 (PST)--
