Centrism

From dKosopedia

This is a hypothetical strategy that may have been used by Republicans. Examples pointing to its use would be useful. Refinement of the description of the strategy would also be useful.

Fixing polls and elections to misdirect an opponent without cheating

  1. Create an inner party, a reliable group from which people can be ostracised.
  2. Embed some members of the inner party in groups neutral or only mildly antagonistec to your objectives.
  3. Keep very close track of the neutral groups' opinions.
    1. . If your opponent is pushing in a direction you know most of your groups dislike, have your embedded people "support" him, i.e. make encouraging noises about the things he talks about, in a way that can be refuted later.
    2. If they are going in a popular direction, have them point out how terrible the consequences might be.
      1. Your opponent looks at the poll numbers and switches direction.
      2. You can now call him a flip-flopper, so you win support by being seen as consistent. Never mind if you've changed direction before; you've been expecting the change, so you and your supporters are ready to trash him.
      1. Your opponent doesn't change direction, but hedges his bets.
      2. You've taken the edge off his campaign. Focus on making the neutrals apathetic.
  4. When it comes close to election time, you'll have everything ready to get your controlled groups to switch direction. Your opponent's numbers mysteriously drop at the last minute, just enough for you to win if your database was good enough.
