snappy, I look forward to your suggestions on branching. Can you describe what you have in mind? (I'm a well established software developer. I prefer to remain anonymous for now, so I won't list my resume, but I do have the expertise to build next-generation community software.)
Snappy: Can't talk now, but I'll try to outline some of my thoughts and get back to you within the next few days.
Pyrrho 02:17, 18 Oct 2004 (PDT) Editing the instructions... no, of course not, and thanks for the tip on the tag... cheers. ----
Snappy (Tue Oct 19 22:22:37 EDT 2004): So we were talking about a mojo system for wiki authors... This seems like a good idea, but there are some issues. If a new user makes a change to a page, and while the change is awaiting approval, another user wants to make an edit ... so we have a potential branch. It would not be too hard to implement branching, but would require some effort on the part of wiki editors. Your thoughts?
--Centerfielder 13:38, 20 Oct 2004 (PDT) Let me quickly jump in here. I think the right way to do this is to build a wiki into Scoop. Someone recently started a wiki discussion over at the Scoop site. I'd strongly suggest interested dKos software types head over there and coordinate. Check out the hotlisted stories in the lower lefthand corner of this page.
Carneades 09:26, 21 Oct 2004 (PDT) I think integrating wiki and scoop is a good short-term solution, but the long-term cries out for better answers. A well disciplined wiki can add persistence and some organization to the clutter, but it only scales up one more level. Right now, most visitors to Daily Kos are still lurkers. If there's a shift from lurking to participation, which I think over time should be both expected and encouraged, scoop + wiki won't be a viable solution for long either. I have been assembling ideas for the next generation software, and I'll be one of many developers sharing ideas when the big discussion happens. I'm not saying scoop + wiki is a bad idea--it should be a quick extension, and so would be a valuable stopgap while the next generation software is being written.
