Brenda Ford
From dKosopedia
Brenda Ford, elected in 2006 to represent District 7 on the Hawaii County Council. District 7 includes South Kona and portions of North Kona on the island of Hawai'i.
The following information if from the Hawai'i State Office of Elections:
- Brenda Ford, Community Advocate; age 59; married to Larry Ford; Kona resident for 11 years; owns farm in Captain Cook and grows lychee, papaya, and coffee.
- My primary goal is to serve the people of Kona. I will work collaboratively to improve infrastructure, public safety, and environmental protection. It’s exciting to run for Council now because there is more unity among Kona residents about what we need and want, and don’t want, than at any other time in recent history.
- Our paramount need is for concurrent public services and infrastructure matching the level of new development and that protects our wonderful, natural resources. Workforce housing must be closer to employment centers instead of forcing people to drive greater distances between their home and jobs.
- It’s time to decentralize County government. The system is broken. Our population has become too large and diverse to continue the current system of Hilo-centered, top-down County government. We must transfer decision-making authority to Kona District managers in all County Departments, and create a Kona Planning Commission with decision-making authority regarding Kona-specific issues.
- Our Council Representative must be action-oriented. While the Council can pass new ordinances and approve new bonds, there has been a serious lack of follow-through. We must build what is approved and funded. Good representation requires relentless effort to make sure the job gets done - open La’aloa Street to the highway; complete Lako Street; fix Napo’opo’o Junction; and build the West Hawaii Civic Center and the South Kona Police Station.
