Bill Heckroth is the Iowa Democratic State Senator for District 9 which covers Butler, Bremer, and portions of Fayette and Black Hawk counties, see Iowa State Senate elections, 2006.

Bill moved to Waverly, Iowa in 1987 with Jan, his wife of 33 years and their three sons, Thomas, Andrew and Patrick. Jan is a chaplain and Spiritual Care Team Leader at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Thomas is a recent graduate of the University of Iowa, Andrew is a sophomore at Iowa, and Patrick is a high school senior at Waverly-Shell Rock. Bill is self employed as a financial advisor in Waverly. He was born and raised in the small farming community of Dysart, south of Waterloo. His dad was a laborer at the local farmer's cooperative elevator and his mom was a substitute teacher and clerk at the local grocery store. His four siblings all live in Iowa, which helped the family decide to move to and stay in Waverly.

Bill attended the University of Iowa, earning a degree in Financial Management in 1972. While there, he was fortunate to earn a full-ride scholarship to play baseball which enabled him, financially, to complete his education.
