Bill Dotzler

Bill Dotzler (D) comes to the Iowa Sate Senate after three terms in the State House. He is from Waterloo and represents the 11th district, Black Hawk County. He is also an Assistant Democratic Leader.

Senator Dotzler graduated from Cedar Falls High school in 1966. He received his Associate of Arts degree from North Iowa Area Community College in 1969 and graduated Cum laude from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.

He has held offices at the Iowa Institute for Public Leadership. Currently his still holds offices for the Iowa Workforce Development, 21st Century Workforce Council, Governor’s Housing Task Force, and the Area 7 Regional Workforce Investment Board.

Senator Dotzler is a member of the Appropriations, Business and Labor, Economic Growth, Human Resources and Ways and Means Committees. He is also Co-Chair of the Economic Development Budget Subcommittee.

Senator Dotzler has also served in the United States Army Security Agency, Military Intelligence from 1969-72. Before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1972 Dotzler was an Honor Graduate of Special Identification Techniques Operator School in Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He received Top Secret Cryptographic Security Clearance and did his Tour of Duty in Berlin Germany from 1970-72.

Some of Senator Dotzler’s special recognitions and awards include the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award, the Governor’s Special Recognition Award, and the Governor’s Lifesaving Award. Sen. Dotzler also was given the International Citation Award in 2000, an award that has been previously granted to President Kennedy.

Senator Dotzler community service has included serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Waterloo Nursing Association, the President of the Friends of Hartman Reserve Nature Center, the Charter President of Cedar Trails Partnership. He also was on the initial Board of Directors of Black Hawk Leadership.

Aside from his work in the House and now the Senate, Senator Dotzler also works for John Deere Waterloo Works as a Machine Operator and Labor Representative. Sen. Dotzler also worked for Area VII Job Training Administration where he was a Labor Representative on the Iowa Workforce Development Council.

Sen. Dotzler says that his interests are working to insure a skilled qualified workforce.
