From dKosopedia

Bernard Kerik is a former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department. He is also a close friend and business partner of Rudy Giuliani. He was President George W. Bush's first choice to lead the United States Department of Homeland Security, but his nomination was quickly withdrawn in a haze of scandal.

On June 30, 2006, he plead guilty on Friday to misdemeanor charges of accepting gifts from a company with alleged mob connections, while serving as a top police official.

On November 9, 2007, he was indicted on 14 counts including federal tax fraud and lying to investigators. [1]
