I don't think it's accurate to say that Westlund abandoned the Republican Party because of its unpopularity. I'm no expert, but my strong impression is that he left the party out of frustration with the direction it's going, and because he wanted to run for Governer (and would have been unlikely to get party support.) -Peteforsyth 12:52, 8 July 2006 (PDT)
