Benjamin F. Dillingham II

Benjamin Franklin Dillingham II, (b.1916 - d.1998), once known as "Mr. Republican" in Hawaii, he lost to Daniel Inouye in the 1962 U.S. senatorial election and in 1974, ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor on a Republican ticket headed by Randolph Crossley.
Dillingham had served on the Honolulu Board of Supervisors, the predecessor of the Honolulu City Council, and served in the territorial Senate. He was a leader of the Hawaii Republican Party and was a member of the Republican National Committee.
Dillingham was a lieutenant colonel in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He was general manager of Oahu Railway & Land Company which had been founded by his grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Dillingham. He was also senior vice president of Dillingham Corporation, a company founded by his father, Walter F. Dillingham. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1970 but remained on the board of directors until the company was sold in 1983.
Dillingham's son, Benjamin F. Dillingham III is a GLBT philanthropist living in San Diego
