Becky Schmitz

Becky Schmitz (D) is a member of the Iowa State Senate, District 45. She was first elected to the State Senate in 2006.
Becky Schmitz is a longtime resident of Fairfield and served with the Southern Prairie Area Education Agency for 27 years before retiring in May of 2005 from counseling and social work in Jefferson, Wapello and Van Buren county school districts. Becky and her husband, Ron, also own and operate a lawn care business in Fairfield which was started by their children, Curtis and Cassie. Most recently Becky launched her own education consulting business.
Becky has been an active member of the community, including serving as past-president of the Iowa School Social Workers Association, a past-president of the Southern Prairie Education Association, as a member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, and as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for eight years. Becky has also worked as an adjunct professor at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.
Becky and her husband live in Fairfield. Their son Curtis owns his own business in Dubuque and their daughter Cassie is a website developer for Iowa Interactive in Des Moines.
