Talk:527 GOTV tactics

From dKosopedia

Several weeks ago- (Sunday Magazine section of NYTimes), Mark Mehlman
candidly related how Rove (and he), successfully targeted Ohio's cache
of [likely]]Republican voters into votes, by using volunteers(unpaid),
for a large turnout for Bush- (pivotal in winning the election). As
Chairman of GOP Election Campaign ,he deduced there were significant
voters in areas of Ohio, but targeted these potential voters by using Visa's
data base. Visa provided accurate market data reflecting purchases,by whom...
for how much...and their location in the State; enabling him to accurately
separate purchasing habits-(cars,services) into [which] voters would likely
vote for Bush. Volvo owners and yoga devotees were Democrats, while Republican
buying patterns revealed by this demographic provided the data neededcd to
win votes. Groups of volunteers from prayer and faith based groups, gyms, and
others were recruited and engaged passionate on-the-ground trops that got out
the vote.
Neither America Coming Together,(ACT), or other 527's knew of the treasure
trove of critical votes existing in outlying areas occupied by these voters.
Without accurate, sophisticated data basing techniques, un-coordinated paid
volunteers, and disciplined strategies- many votes were lost.
There is a message here about strategic thinking, imagination, the use of
available data marketing, and more...

Just noted errors: It's Ken Mehlman, (not Mark). Spelling error:[trops]--
should have been:[troops]. Failed to mention excellent article on this by
Adam Nagourney of NYTimes (2004/11/19), in National section of paper. He
writes about Mehlman"s strategy in targeting voters not by [where]they
live, but [how] they live, giving him demographics that enabled him to ad-
vertise to captive audiences. Wal-Mart calls this "Predictive Technology".
This is a lesson in how to succeed thro
