New York gets its first aqueduct, a structure that 33 miles long. Tokyo's second, and principal aqueduct (24 miles long) was completed way back in 1654.
Wilhem Weitling publishes Guaranties of Harmony and Freedom.
Karl Marx becomes editor of the liberal Cologne newspaper Rheinische Zeitung.
Order of the Sons of Temperance is founded.
Sir William Dillon publishes Conquest of Siberia and the History of the Transactions, Wars, Commerce, etc, etc, carried on between Russia and China from the Earliest Period.
