Belgium becomes independent. The second country in Europe to industrialize then begins unending struggle to devise a unified national identity.
Benjamin Constant dies.

Timeline

May 26: Indian Removal Act signed by President Andrew Jackson. The law grants authority to ethnically cleanse territory east of the Mississippi River of its aboriginal owners.
July 5: 300 French ships from Toulon land 37,000 French troops at Sidi Ferruch, 20 miles from Algiers. The Dey of Algiers, Hussain, capitulates and makes his exit with a harm of 60 women, cronies, and soldiers.
August 2: French King Charles X abdicates in favor of Louis-Philippe, the "citizen-king."
